MISSION: PUBLIC ACCESS, COMMUNITY, AND INCLUSION

Public Squash built the first open air court in Hamilton Fish Park in NYC, and has been a trailblazer in expanding access to squash with its mission of building free open air courts in public parks. Public squash has been heralded  throughout the squash  world for doing what many have said was impossible---building free courts---and capturing the imagination of people all over the world who want to see courts built in their communities. Public Squash has set a goal of 20 public courts by 2020, and has been working with various groups around the country who are interested in bringing an open air court to their community. The courts are constructed in a public park for all to use, and local communities underwrite the cost of the courts.

In Spring 2018, Public Squash began working with our group of NYC players, parents and fans. We are emboldened by the vision of Public Squash to make courts in our community a reality. We formed a group , called the Community Squash Alliance, and our goal is to raise enough funds to build at least one court in 2019, with more to follow.  Our goal is 250K  to build one or more courts in Manhattan, preferably in an uptown location to start.  These courts will benefit all of us---so it is up to all of us to make this happen . We want to see outdoor courts where our community can congregate in the warm weather to  play the sport we all love. In addition, we love this sport and want to share it with more people in our communities. Our  Junior Committee is ready to test new ways to introduce the sport to new players who would never have the opportunity to play without public access.  Squash enhances lives by bringing happiness and joy through health and well being and we want to see all members of our NYC community have a chance to share in this. Once these courts are built, the Community Squash Alliance, in partnership with Public Squash, will bring this vision of  access, community and inclusion to  our NYC community.  We look forward to sharing this with the whole community and welcoming everyone who wants to join this effort, in any way, big or small.
